Purpose of the Role

The Financial Manager will take full ownership of the finance function, ensuring the effective management of financial operations, compliance with statutory regulations, and supporting strategic decision-making. This role is responsible for overseeing multi-entity financial operations, providing financial insights, and ensuring that the finance function is aligned with the company’s business objectives.

Job Description

Financial Operations Management:

  • End-to-end financial administration, financial controls, accounting procedures, and day-to-day financial operations.
  • Manage multi-entity financial reporting and ensure accuracy across all jurisdictions (US, UK, and South Africa).
  • Provide leadership and support to juniors.

Treasury and Cash Management.

  • Manage the company’s treasury function, including foreign exchange transactions and cross-border payments in compliance with SARB and other regulatory bodies.
  • Oversee cash flow planning, forecasting, and the investment of excess cash, ensuring that sufficient funds are available for operational and investment needs.

Tax, Compliance, and Statutory Reporting.

  • Oversee all tax compliance and reporting, including income tax, VAT, employee taxes (PAYE, SDL, UIF), and dividends tax across multiple entities.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with SARS and ensure all tax submissions are completed timely and accurately.
  • Stay up to date with relevant tax legislation and regulatory frameworks, ensuring full compliance in South Africa, the UK, and the US.

Fixed Assets and Property Management.

  • Manage fixed assets, including overseeing audits, depreciation, acquisitions, disposals, and fixed asset reconciliations.
  • Ensure that all fixed asset movements are accurately processed, reported and reconciled.

Financial Planning and Analysis.

  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, working with various departments to ensure accuracy and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Provide insightful financial analysis and scenario modelling to support business decisions and strategic initiatives.
  • Regularly review financial performance metrics, including variance analysis, key ratios, and cost analysis.

Leadership and Team Development.

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage the team to ensure all financial processes are efficient and aligned with business objectives, while supporting personal development.

Audit and Governance.

  • Oversee both internal and external audits, ensuring the timely preparation of audit materials and compliance with all statutory requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to governance standards, including compliance with IFRS, tax regulations, and corporate policies.

B-BBEE Strategy and Compliance.

  • Drive the rollout of the company’s B-BBEE strategy, ensuring compliance and facilitating the external verification process.
  • Ad-hoc Projects and Strategic Support.
  • Take ownership of finance-related projects and initiatives, including system improvements and process enhancements.
  • Support senior leadership by providing financial insights for decision-making, especially in areas of international expansion and multi-entity management.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified CA(SA)
  • BCom Accounting or related degree.

Experience:

  • 3–5 years of experience in a mid to senior finance role, ideally in a shared services or group finance function of an entrepreneurial business.
  • Proven experience managing multi-entity operations (non-negotiable) and exposure to multinational environments, particularly in the US, UK, and South Africa.
  • Experience reporting directly to the head of the organisation as the most senior finance resource in the organisation.
  • Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory frameworks, particularly in South Africa, the UK, and potentially the US and Africa.
  • High proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in Xero accounting software, Syft and SimplePay. (advantageous).

  • Strong analytical mindset, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and solve problems creatively and efficiently.
  • Impeccable attention to detail, with a hands-on approach to financial management to ensure accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining high standards of financial control and reporting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of corporate finance, accounting principles (IFRS, GAAP), and financial regulations.
  • Commercially minded, with the ability to balance financial control with business strategy and operational needs.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, with experience in managing and developing finance teams, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to provide financial insights.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, ensuring the effective execution of tasks while aligning with business goals.
